Our Team Pictures and Bios

It is the expertise and hard work of the following individuals which makes Red Ants Pants a functional company with a quality product.  Most of the following people are independent contractors who are contracted to do the patternwork and production. 

Sarah Calhoun, Founder and owner of Red Ants Pants
Sarah came to start this company with a degree in Environmental Science and five years experience of teaching outdoor education and working manual labor jobs.  She designs the products, manages production, financing, marketing and sales.

Beth Treweek, Patternmaker
Beth is a freelance patternmaker based out of Malibu, California.  She has 16 years of experience in pattern making and technical design for men’s, women’s, and kid’s clothing including everything from fashion apparel to technical outerwear. 

Cheryl Evans is the mother of Sheila Brush and together they own and run the manufacturing center in Seattle, where Red Ants Pants are produced.  They run their business with the strong belief that their employees are the backbone of their company.  They believe that being a Mom comes first.  Their employees receive wages on the high end of the pay scale for the industry and also receive full benefits. The employees are paid an hourly rate, not piece work which results in fewer injuries and higher quality. 

Terry Coronado learned to sew from her grandmother on a treadle sewing machine at age 5.   She has sewn for many companies including Topstitch, Sun Sportswear and Brittania.  She has been working for Cheryl and Sheila since 2004.

Marie Plush, Terry’s mother, went to trade school in Alberta, Canada.  She has since gained many years of experience working for companies such as Great Western Garment, Butnick, Black Bear,Topstitch and Brittania.  She has been at this manufacturing center since 1998.

Yong Lee is originally from Korea.  She used to work at Cascade West and has been on this team
since 2004. 

Rebecca Ornelas comes to Seattle from Mexico where she was a fashion designer.  Her experience is designing jeans and dresses for children.  She has been in Seattle for 5 years and working with Cheryl since early in 2006.

Kim Truong is from Korea and is one of the longest term employees. She has been working with this crew since 1996.

Ana Nieto is from Mexico and recently joined the team in early 2006.  She brings with her experience as a patternmaker as she attended technical school back in Mexico.

Van Truong is from Vietnam and has 23 years sewing experience.  She also joined the team in 2006 after her time spent in Vancouver, Canada.

Alison Grove helps out in the shop in White Sulphur. She handles the majority of our distribution for internet sales as well as pant inspections and packaging. Allison grew up in western Colorado but now considers Montana home. She and her husband have lived in White Sulphur Springs since 2003 and are the proud “parents” of Flint a 13 yr old ball playing blue heeler. Allison has an M.S. in Animal nutrition and has worked with animal science research for 16 years. She recently started her own freelance scientific writing business, but enjoys the camaraderie and computer breaks found working at Red Ants Pants. Allison also enjoys camping, cooking, the fiber arts, and photographing Montana’s mountain ranges with her husband.

Barb Stidham helps out in the shop in White Sulphur. She works primarily on inspecting and packaging the pants. Barb has lived in White Sulphur Springs since 1955. She came to WSS as a child with her family from Minnesota. She and her husband Wes raised their two boys here and enjoy the town very much. Barb loves to tend to her lawn each summer and has wonderful flower gardens. She is well known around town for her cooking and loves to feed her two boys and their families. “Grandma Barbie” has six grandchildren and enjoys spoiling them every chance she gets. Summertime, holidays and birthdays are her favorite time of year.

Mark Lighthiser is the very talented artist who did our t-shirt illustrations. He is a Michigan native who has enjoyed drawing since childhood. He currently resides along Colorado's front range with his wife Erica and their two daughters, Eva and Clara. He enjoys bicycling, hiking, camping, cooking and playing music with his family and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

Kathy Hochstrat makes our leather belts by hand in White Sulphur Springs. She is a native Montanan raised on a ranch. She loves animals and the outdoors. She still lives in White Sulphur Springs on a small ranch with lots of animals, big and small. Her talent with leather work is self taught, starting when she was in 4-H.
